Strange Acoustics: Sound of Silence

Simon and Garfunkel’s hit Sound of Silence has been popping up in all kinds of unexpected places lately. American Idol, the Trolls movie, and several TV shows have been showcasing their 1967 hit. The well received 2015 cover by Disturbed has been making the rounds in an unexpected place as well.

French figure skating pair Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres have been performing to the song throughout the 2016-2017 season, and have been known to choose music by popular bands over more traditional classical music in the past. Here they are competing at the 2017 European Championships, where they earned a bronze medal and became the first French pairs skaters to medal at the event in 14 years.

Keep an eye out for them during the Olympics!

  1. loved the song since it came out in 67. And yes, its appeared in figure skating these past few years as well. M and C pairs may be the most well known, and it showed up on a number of programs at the recent US Nationals. Such a nice change from Carmen!
