Strange Places: Latta Plantation Nature Preserve (In Winter)

I’ve written about the Latta Plantation Nature Preserve before, I love breaking up my work week routine by hiking there in the summer. It’s a beautiful park with miles of trail, picnic areas, and gorgeous views of Mountain Island Lake.

The preserve is busy in the summertime, full of hikers, dog walkers, horseback riders, and boaters. Visiting in winter when there are few visitors shows a different side of the park, quiet and peaceful. I went a few weeks ago on an unseasonably warm day to take in a pale winter sunset, and the quiet lapping of water.
