Strange Wednesdays: Scent Memories

I think everyone has certain scents that propel them back to childhood. The one that always triggers my memories is the smell of a flower/antique shop called Williams Trading Post. I used to go there all the time with my parents to pick out plants for our yard, flowers for the garden, shrubs for the continuing evolution of our backyard’s landscaping.

I also visited frequently with my grandmother. One of her hobbies was crocheting doll dresses, and the trading post was where she went to get the head and arms to complete each doll after finishing each dress, which stuffed to essentially create the torso of the doll. I have many fond memories wandering around the store while she picked out the right head and arms to complete each creation.

She passed away earlier this week, and I am in the process of figuring out if I can make it home in time for her funeral. If I can’t, I will definitely be visiting the trading post to take a deep breath and relive those memories.

From Astronomy.com: This morning marks the peak of the annual Leonid meteor shower. Astronomical conditions should be nearly perfect because the Moon remains out of the sky all night. (It reaches its New phase tomorrow morning.) An observer under a clear, dark sky can expect to see up to 10 “shooting stars” per hour. The meteors appear to radiate from a point in the Sickle asterism of Leo the Lion, a region that rises in late evening and climbs high in the southeast before dawn. Prime viewing occurs between approximately 3 a.m. local time and the start of twilight some two hours later.

  1. Condolences for your loss. I think if you can or can’t make it back in time for the funeral, you should stop by The Trading Post for a quick “smell.” I am sure it would be worth it!

Thanks for sharing and I am glad I follow you!
