Strange Places: Gettysburg National Military Park

I originally visited Gettysburg in 2011, and it was one of the most surreal experiences I’ve had while traveling. There is no place decorated with more monuments anywhere else. They are nestled all over the landscape, emerging at every turn. Dedicated to both whole units and individuals, they add a whole other layer to exploring the path of the three day battle.

If you ever visit, I would highly recommend arriving early and signing up for a guided tour. The guide will drive your car, and be able to give you much more detail then a audio tour will. They can also personalize your tour, giving a general overview of the battle, or tracing the path of a specific unit or historical figure.
