Strange Events: June 26th – July 2nd

Every week I look for new shows, movies, and documentaries to enjoy after work during the week. I try to narrow it down from the high volume of entertainment available to a range of things with a strange twist to them. I also try to keep an eye out for astronomical events, and interesting dates in history. Enjoy, and let me know what you watch!

June 26th

The first section of the Atlantic City boardwalk was opened to the public in 1870. 

Drink an old fashioned to commemorate!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone released in 1997. Read CNN’s article on the impact the series has had. 

June 27th

American musician Mildred J. Hill, composer of “Happy Birthday, was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1859. I plan on celebrating with some birthday cake ice cream sandwiches. 

June 28th

Broadchurch (BBC America, Season 3)

The final season of BBC’s detailed and gritty detective show. 

Macbeth Met Summer encore- one night only

June 29th

Camera Day

Baby Driver out in theaters

Heist movie featuring a fresher faced getaway driver with tinnitus. 

June 30th

Margaret Mitchell’s novel “Gone With The Wind” was published, 1936

Gypsy (Netflix, new drama series)

Naomi Watts stars as a suburban therapist whose live slowly unraveles in a surreal fashion.

July 1st

International Joke Day

July 2nd

America in Color (Smithsonian Channel, new documentary miniseries)

Explores American history by decade, using colorization to transform footage previously seen only in black and white.

  1. Great list! You should add a Harry Potter movie or 7 because the first book came out 20 years ago today and it’s probably Harry Potter Central on TV, lol.
    I really need to watch Broadchurch!
