Muse of the Day

This is a black hole. It consumes matter, sucks it in, and crushes it beyond existence. When I first heard that, I thought that’s evil in its most pure. Something that drags you in, crushes you, makes you nothing.

    Evil? No. Benevolent recycler? Maybe.

      1. Black holes scared me as a kid… But recently I came to kinda appreciate them. Exactly because they are detached of any label. They are galactic construct that does what it does regardless of how we feel about it. It’s natural result of laws of physics… simply they are bound to spawn and exist. They are required so we can have galaxies – center of Milky Way is cluster of huge black holes whose gravitational pull keeps our galaxy together.

So, ultimately – it is us humans who attach labels to things. Black holes themselves aren’t evil. And they are definitely not benevolent. They just are.

  2. howtoaddict said it well: “So, ultimately – it is us humans who attach labels to things. Black holes themselves aren’t evil. And they are definitely not benevolent. They just are.”

“benevolence” is my labeling and “evil” is Alice Morgan’s. Labels reveal things about the person who labels, perhaps more than they reveal about the thing being labeled. Good talk.
